We are a multi-discipline training facility that focuses on training a horse or rider’s natural talents. We specialize in team roping, team sorting/penning, trail riding, beginner western riding lessons as well as riders of all levels.
Our focus is helping our riders fine tune horsemanship skills for constant self-improvement and increasing confidence. Our goal is for our riders to truly understand horse behavior for continued growth between you and your horse. Whether you are starting out as a new rider or are looking to expand into different disciplines, we can guide and assist you in your aspirations!
My name is Marc Alan.
I am the founder and president of MT Performance Horses and Cattle Co.
It all started in 1978 when I had the idea to follow my dreams of becoming a roping professional. I started researching the industry and found that I had a knack for buying, training, and selling horses in the roping community. I bought my first horse, a quarter horse named Muscles, and trained him to be one of the best roping/cattle horses in Southern California.
In 1983 I moved from Valencia to Chatsworth to grow my ranch. I bought a facility with its own roping arena so I could work more closely with the horses instead of having to make a commute each day. I trained horses of all kinds for different competitive events (roping, reining, cutting, cow horse) and learned how to match each horse with its rider for a more streamlined competition.
In 1988 I got married and left the horse world for a bit. During that time I went into the car industry, but always with a mindset to one day return to the roping world again. That’s where my passion truly lied.
A few years later, I retired from the car business and went back into ranching and horses. I have been in that world ever since. In 2018 I started MT Performance Horses and Cattle Co. We are located in Moorpark, CA, nestled between the Santa Monica Mountain Preserve and Simi Valley. Our facility has a roping arena, several turnout pens, and miles and miles of beautiful scenic paths.
